A CANCER CURE, SOON
Our vision is to accelerate progress to improve the lives of people living with cancer today and bring forward the day when a cure for cancer is finally realized.
Rising Tide Foundation for Clinical Cancer Research (RTFCCR) is a charitable, non-profit organization established in 2010. We strive to support ground-breaking cancer research that has the potential to create immediate and meaningful impact, directly enabling treatment access to patients. Funding goes to truly innovative and unique patient-centered clinical trials rather than basic research.
We provide funding for research that can directly benefit patients. Primary consideration in granting support is given to truly innovative, unique, patient-centered research that has the potential to positively impact the lives of cancer patients at the earliest opportunity. As time is not a luxury afforded to cancer patients, we demand that research projects approved for funding are activated within 6 months of funding upon official award notification and that they exert a patient impact within 3 years or less. Funding can be provided to any relevant institution in any country where meaningful grant oversight is possible.
Since 2010, we have funded an impressive selection of 53 clinical cancer research grants in a wide range of cancer types. The drive and passion of our world-class scientific leadership network has enabled us to build a strong portfolio of grants. This valued partner network assists in steering our programs and ensures we enable only best-in-class research.
WHY IT MATTERS
With cancer occurrences on the rise, patients are in dire need of therapeutic options that are more effective and less toxic.
According to the World Cancer Report 2014, cancer figures among the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide, with approximately 14 million new cases and 8.2 million cancer-related deaths in 2012.
For these cancer patients, over two-third will suffer devastating long-term effects from treatment, including heart disease, secondary cancers, learning disabilities, infertility, and more. Hence, more effective and less toxic options to prevent, diagnose, and treat cancer are needed.
Today, we know that cancer is a genetic disease that is caused by changes to genes that control the way our cells function. The cause can be inherited, environmental exposures, or lifestyle choices. In fact, at least half of us will hear the words “you have cancer” at some point in our lives. Today, we also know that not all cancers can be treated the same; each type of cancer requires specific research to develop the best treatment for every patient.
All these austere facts serve as a reminder of the uphill challenge we face in beating this disease, compelling us to set a purposeful, new agenda for cancer research and pioneer new approaches to tackle cancer.
Patients do not have time to wait and cancer can affect anyone. Our funding program is focused on novel, highly promising clinical trials and translational research with a high potential to improve patients’ survival and quality of life within 3 years or less. Approved studies must be activated within 6 months of official award notification.
